Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts Receives 2007 Outstanding Public Servant Award

Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts was the recipient of SHRM-RI’s 2007 Outstanding Public Servant Award. This award is presented annually by SHRM-RI to recognize the outstanding contributions of a public servant who has promoted, sponsored, or initiated legislation that affects positive changes in workplace legislation and has an awareness of the value of involvement of human resource professionals in the legislative process.

This year we were pleased to honor Lt. Governor Elizabeth Roberts, for her efforts
to improve the affordability, accessibility, and quality of health care in Rhode Island through her former leadership as a senator and co-chair of the RI General Assembly’s Permanent Joint Committee on Healthcare Oversight and in the passage of the Coordinated Health Planning Act of 2006.

Lt. Governor Roberts has also recently created the Small Business Health Coordinating Council as part of a broader effort to give the Rhode Island small business community a stronger voice in state government and initiatives that will have a positive impact on employers in RI.

Lt. Governor Roberts, who took office in January 2007 and is the first female elected to this position in Rhode Island, spent over a decade distinguishing herself as one of Rhode Island’s most respected advocates for quality, affordable healthcare for every family and has built a statewide reputation for being a tireless leader on health and medical issues.

Throughout her career, she has also been a leader in economic development and job growth, pushing for cleaner air and water, stronger schools, and increased attention to our disaster preparedness. Lt Governor Roberts has an exceptional skill-an ability to collaborate with others, and bring people and groups with differing points of view to the table to partner and develop solutions and implement them -- to solve difficult statewide challenges.
